The Premise[]

My name is Meghan Chase.

In less than twenty-four hours, I'll be sixteen. Countless stories, songs and poems have been written about this wonderful age, when a girl finds her true love and the stars shine for her and the handsome prince on a white horse carriers her off into the sunset.

I don't think it will be that way for me. I wonder what's in store.

Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined…

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

Detailed Plot Summary[]

Meghan’s little brother, Ethan, begins to act weird and hurt people, including her, for some reason unknown. Her best friend Robbie finds her struggling with him and discovers that the real Ethan has been kidnapped and replaced by a changeling, though they don't know who organized the switch. It turns out that Robbie is actually Robin Goodfellow (nicknamed Puck), a powerful summer fey from the Seelie Court. The answer, along with her real brother, lies in the faery world, otherwise known as the Nevernever.

When they get into The Nevernever they are hunted by Puck’s former best friend and sworn enemy, Prince Ash of the Unseelie Court. Puck leaves Meghan in a tree and goes off to deal with Ash. Meghan meets a Cait Sith named Grimalkin, who is something like a Cheshire Cat.

He agrees to take her to the Summer Court in return forvery human year in Faery there is a festival called Elysium, during which the two courts, Summer and Winter, join to rewrite and sign contracts and treaties. There is also a feast and dancing. During Elysium Meghan is asked by Ash to dance. Puck by this time was back in the Summer Court but was put under a spell by Oberon as punishment, leaving him as a bird. Suddenly, a Chimera attacks and ruins the dance. Ash saves Meghan from it. The Winter Queen, Mab blames the Summer King, Oberon for the attack, which enrages his wife, the Summer Queen Tatiana, although it is revealed later that the chimera was being controlled by other forces.

The Winter Court leaves and Meghan takes this chance to escape because she thinks that Mab, Queen of the Winter Court has taken her brother. She leaves with Grimalkin to a secret passage into the human world to find a trod to Tir Na Nog, the Winter Realm and the location of the Unseelie Court. Meghan leaves with Grimalkin and they find the trod to Tir Na Nog, but had some trouble with the owner, but Puck comes in unwantedly and helps.

On the other side of the door they are unfortunately greeted by Ash. He had been sent by Mab to get Meghan so they could use her against Oberon. Whilst Puck and Ash were fighting, Meghan was taken into a ice cave by Iron Bugs to a great Iron Horse. Iron Horse told her they had her brother at the Iron Court because King Machina wanted to slap him and taken him to get to her. After saving her which he later regretted, Ash made a bargain with Meghan that said he would go with her to the Iron Court to find her brother and she would go with him to Tir Na Nog after. Back in the human world, Meghan, Ash, Grimalkin, and Puck travel to New Orleans to seek the guidance of an oracle, who tells them that in order to defeat the Iron King and retrieve Meghan's brother, they must get Witchwood (from creatures called Dryads), which Ash turns into an arrow that will kill Machina. The four seek out the dryads who live in the trees in a park downtown, and on their way they are attacked by humans being controlled by Iron Fey.They fight the humans, and Puck is shot in the process. Rather than let him die, Meghan agrees to leave him with the dryads, who provide his best hope for survival, and also give Meghan and Ash the one weapon that can kill the Iron King. Meghan and Ash continue to go to the Iron house. They reach the Iron Realm, although Ash almost dies in the process. Meghan fights the Iron King and manages to kill him and claim his powers, which means she now has both Summer and Iron glamour. After their journey, Ash and Meghan realize they had fallen in love with each other. Meghan returns Ethan home and Ash also returns home, to the Nevernever. While Meghan is talking with her mother, Ash comes to take her to the Unseelie Court and uphold her end of the contract.
